TRAVELLING AND TOURISM

(10-11 GRADES)

1. This is a worksheet was made to revise tourism-related vocabulary for a student at an advanced level. It was created as a test for a chapter of a certain book so it may be a bit specific, but it still deals with collocations, phrases, idioms and vocabulary items related to tourism and can be used to expand basic vocabulary on the theme or test previous knowledge. It consists of a matching exercise and a text with gaps to be filled.

2. Watch this video of Anthony Bourdain touring Istanbul and students have to answer questions as they watch. Goes great with a unit on travels, food or culture as the video explores monuments and places of interest but also focuses on Turkish cuisine. This activity is best done with teens or adults, B1-B2.

3. This is a conversation class based on common vocabulary based around vacations. Learners start off by reading where people like to go on vacations while tuning into key vocabulary. They then have a conversation based around some questions before preparing their own presentation on where they like to go on vacations. Why not play hot seat with the phrases and words for extra practice.

4. "Berlin" is a reading lesson. There are several texts to work with, match questions with answers and fill in the gaps exercises, some new vocabulary, questions for speaking practice, and a project task at the end of the lesson. This worksheet is for people, who are interested in visiting this beautiful city or are eager to learn more about the German capital. The lesson includes texts written by four friends of mine. Theresa and Anastasia live in Berlin, Benedikt has lived and visited the city, and Natasha went there with her family. The guys share their feelings about Berlin, give some practical tips on planning a trip and spending your time there.

5. The worksheet is dedicated to Intermediate / Upper-intermediate students. It relates to the mysterious monuments of Easter Island and the history of the island itself. Apart from cultural issues, the worksheet also deals with vocabulary (there are some hints in the brackets next to each sentence) and listening skills. It is advisable for the teachers to prepare slips of paper with the most difficult vocab items before watching the film so that students can get familiar with them. Enjoy!
